Dumb newspaper question...

garweft Aug 08, 2006 05:44 PM

I've never used newspaper before and I have one dumb question.

For those that use it, how many layers do you put down?

I would guess it's more than one, but when is it overkill?

two layers of newspaper and one layer of dimpled craft paper, the craft paper IMO looks better and gives the snakes a bit of traction = less crumpled up paper.

Maybe its overkill but I use sections of USA Today. The paper is of good quality and the sections are pretty much the same thickness. I cover the bottom in paper sections (usually 4 sections per paper). I also try and push the paper in such that an inch or two go up the walls on all sides except the front. Makes cleaning easier.

We use Corregated Cardboard and couldnt be happier! We have tried just about every bedding and the cardboard which we order in bulk from a shipping company and it cost us 30 bucks for a 24inch tall x 275 foot long roll. Its a great deal!

Now to answer your question, we used about 3-4 sheets of newspaper per cage.

Hope that helps!

Sincerely,
Rose Aguilar

I use about 10 layers, I have a good free source for it though. When an animal goes I just roll up the bad part and replace it.

I'm a graduate student and can just take piles of the college newspaper that they put out. I'm really only limited to what I can carry.

I use about 6-10 layers per cage. I figured more doesn't hurt. It gives them extra layers to burrow through and maybe it provides a little cushioning. For the 4x2 ones that is almost an entire day's paper per cage. (I pull out most of the color pages tho... I'm just picky like that.) I also fold some so they go up about 4-6" on the sides and back, it does help with cleaning (most of the time).
I have coworkers that 'donate' their newspapers for the snakes every week after they've read them.
