Feeding question

football9755 Aug 08, 2006 07:56 PM

My Leopard gecko, Lynyrd, is about 8 years old. I have been feeding him 4 big mealworms a day and the occasion pinkies. I was just wondering if that is enough food for him? He looks healthy and sheds a lot. Just thought i would ask

That sounds like enough food if you ask me. With me I just feed them as much as they will eat in one sitting, and they will eat again after couple of days when they are hungry. I don't think these guys will over eat. When they are not hungry, they won't eat. So in other words they will only eat enough so they are not hungry, and they won't eat anymore after that. If I were you, I would give them as much as they will eat in one sitting.

What the above poster said is the best advice, give them a set amount of time and let them eat their fill, try again in a day or two. Try to maintain a chubby, but not overly so, tail and you'll be fine.

But I just wanted to correct one thing, Leopard geckos can overeat and it is as sad as an underfed gecko. I personally had to have a talk with a relative whose gecko was greatly overweight, thankfully a little gecko dieting and the guy is much happier and much more active. In that case, it was a combination of over hand feeding and not paying attention.
