Why????

garweft Aug 08, 2006 10:16 PM

Why do I always see ads for '06 animals from people that say they are from someone else?

ie. I have an '06 male albino from blah blah reptiles $1000

At least some are deals where the first buyer bought several animals, probably to get a better deal, like $1000 each or 4.4 for $6000. Then they select the one(s) they want to keep and sell the rest for $1000 each. Two distinct advantages, duh, you can get animals for cheaper or even free. Also this would allow the first buyer to have a larger selection from which to choose.

I've done this myself in the past with some BRB's, bought a group, selected out one or two for my breeders and sold off the rest.

Yep, this is exactly what happened with my most recent purchase. Rio Grande Reptiles had bought several hypos from DMExotics (bred by them), and because they saw some other species of snake that they needed for a breeding project, offered some of the hypos up for sale a month later. Good thing, because a month ago, I remember seeing my hypo on the DMExotics site, but didn't get a chance to buy him. I'm just happy I got a chance to buy him the second time 'round!

But I would be worried about getting bad feeders etc.

But It would be nice to buy a ten lot, sell 8-9 of them to cover your cost, and basicly get a free snake.

If I were a brave man I would try it.

yeah, you'd have to be pretty confident in the seller and/or your ability to get them all established.
I just lack the necessary confidence in my bank account to buy 10 animals at once!

I would also rather have the seller tell me where they came from then act as if they produced them. At least you know who actually produced them and that they are the second or third owner. It's good selling....

I tend to stay away from animals that were purchased from a breeder to be resold by another person.

Not that there's anything wrong with these boas. I just prefer to get an animal straight from the original breeder. I might end up paying a bit more, but that's just the way I prefer to do it.

Besides I'd hate to bother the original breeder with questions, if I bought it second hand from someone else.
