Is my boa urinating too often?

boafanatic7 Aug 08, 2006 10:42 PM

Seems like i never stop cleaning up after her....every two days or so she is urinating!!

Could this be related to any illness?? She's a 10lb dbl het sunglow, no problems eating...and no problems with fecal exam...seems perfectly healthy.

Thanks.

Urinating, as in LIQUID urine? This sounds odd to me, all of my boas usually pass chalky white urates when the defecate, and don't have separate liquid "pee"....

How long has it been going on? Does she compensate by drinking a lot of water? Perhaps temps a bit warm? Test the thermostat.

I would call it a little abnormal, but not excessively so. If she's drinking lots of water, give it some thought what happens when we drink a lot.

If you are still concerned about it, then I would say you need some blood work done to make sure all is well INSIDE the snake. A fecal floatation will only reveal the parasites or protozoas. But personally, I would watch and try to notice more. It helps if a vet does become needed to have all the right info.

Meant to say Blood work and/or tissue biopsy.

Does sound a bit to often, none of mine go that often. How often does she eat?

Like others posted, she is obviously getting the fluid somewhere. Passing it is OK but why such a continuous flow???

Your temps? Cage setup etc?

but I would get a blood test done. Frequent urination could be a sign of problems with your boa's kidneys.

Or diabetes... it's not diagnosed too often in reptiles, that'd be a neat case
