tas Aug 09, 2006 02:32 PM

Does anybody know where to get the sliding glass doors for a custom cage I would like to build?

look in the phone book for glass shops, youll most likely have to do an order. get either laminant safety glass or tempered glass.

i tried talking to a glass shop but it was really costly, over 200 bucks! so i looked around and found a local hardware store that sold the tracki bought a plastic one a 4 foot stip cost me 6 bucks cut to size and fit the track first it tells you in the pack how to figure glass size, you can also get it online but im not sure where. i got a sheet of shatterproof plexy from lowes 1/4 inch thick and they cut it for me, make sure the person who cuts it knows what they are doing, if your height is off just a little bit it either wont fit or it will fall out, i had to have the recut me a new piece, but they did it free. install handles and a lock if you want and for about 40 bucks your good to go

oh ya i also glued the track in place so the glass wouldnt bind on any screws
let me know if you have any other questions

my glass for 3 cages cost me 147 the shop i bought from. all were 16x20 inch peices. 2 doors per cage. plexi is ok to use but scratches up alot. its your choice what to use tho. if you do use glass go with tempered or laminant

why tempered or laminant? Will single pane window glass work?

gurinski Aug 09, 2006 10:26 PM

glass pane if broken will become very dangerous shards wich are dangerous for people and youre dragon, so I dont recommend using it.

ok that part I get I mean it stands to reason, of course that if it breaks it could be a problem. So the advise is for if it breaks like from being dropped or other human accidents. Not that it will break due to heat from the cage or anything. right?

Maybe I should ask has anybody heard of a dragon breaking a 1/4 piece of glass before? Is that an issue?
