Buying Worms

crust112 Aug 09, 2006 07:34 PM

Hello, my friend found a snake in his woods and dropped it on my door step. I identified the snake as a Storeria dekayi or Brown Snake. Its a pretty common snake in Indiana, so it seems likely that I am correct. Anyway, I took it in, set up a decent dwelling for now and began feeding it earthworms. She will eat like crazy and everything was going good. Well a little to good because recently I noticed that baby snakes had shown up in the enclosure. I would assume that she had been carrying her babies when she was found. I took them out as soon as I could and found that some had already died. I have tried to feed them but they are so small, finding an earthworm small enough for them to eat is nearly impossible. So, can anyone offer any advice on feeding babies of this size or where I could purchase smaller earthworms than I can find? Also, I currently have the babies housed in a small sterilite container with some small pieces of fake plant for hiding under. Will this do for the time being until they grow a little?

The folks in the Small Terrestrial Snakes Forum should have some very good words for you. Best of luck!
