All 10 have hatched and now Im awaiting for them to shed to see if they are all going to eat. Hoping they will, all appear to be healthy, no kinks or spinal bumps, and active.

Nice light coloration. Do most from this locale look like this? I'd love to see pics of the parents--I'll be they're beautiful snakes. Beautiful babies.

This is pretty common for most of the normal black rats. They will get jet black.

Here are some pics of the parents, these were taken last year, and I need to get some updated pics taken as these dont do them justice....

The male

And the female....

Notice the heavy red influence inbetween the scales?? The Black rats from this locale have very heavy red coloration which bleeds down onto the belly leaving a black and red checkered belly.

The female does not have near as much as the male on the belly, and hopefully these offspring will have the nice red infuence!!

Hi, Brian. You're right, the picture of the male doesn't do it justice. You need to show the ventrum. When I saw it in person it wasn't in shed and the belly was full of red coloration. Awesome snake. I hope my baby looks like it.

Are those the real black ones?Good job.
I had eggs from leucy to leucy breeding and got 3 slugs and 3 good then the good ones went bad anyway.Maybe next year.
I do have some cool corns hatching as I type from quad. het. breeding.

Thanks and yep these should get jet black. My KY black rat is doing great and getting HUGE!!!! I will have to get a good pic of me holding him for a size reference. He is well over 6' and almost as big around as a soda can!!! A huge honker!

Sorry to hear about your eggs!! I know that has to suck and better luck for you next year!

Looking good Brian. We know those babies are going to turn nice and black. Hope they all develope some very nice red between the scales.
Brian, I'll be heading to Louisville Saturday to visit some family. I don't think I'll get a chance to do any herping this time, but we are going to Mammoth Cave on one of the days. Might get a chance to stop by in E town and say hi on the way. We shall see how it goes.

how soon after they shed should they eat? I have one that shed 3 weeks ago and is refusing. They other also shed 3 weeks ago and ate last week, but refused this week.

Sometimes they will eat right after shedding, however, they can be fussy and not eat for a couple of weeks. They should start feeding soon though, keep trying to get them to eat. Good luck.
