be sure to wash you hands before and after handleing and if u want to keep it non aggressive than u need to handle it at least three times a week expesually when young.

I have seen my fair share of burms and other giants. The biggest thing is: remember that list of stupid things you shouldn't do?--- (mess with it when blue, hungry, just ate, etc)- well, with a corn snake you can get away with not listening- not with a 18 ft. burm. Keep your friend jack on hand for when you get bit anyway. and when you get bit- dont just leave him in the cage- thats what he wants and it wont make him stop biting, he'll learn that if he bites the snot out of you, you'll leave him alone- no good. I think burms are great dont get me wrong- they're my favorites- you just have to be smart- most of it is a no brainer (this coming from someone who had to pry her 12 footer off her ankle last night)- dont get too comfortable with them (like i did last nite). anyway- I think they're great- and best of luck!

Oh and if you decide several years down the road you dont want her anymore- think rescue!!! please dont put her in the paper for 500 bucks or anything like that- they dont go to good homes- 80 % of the animals i get come from people that say- i got her out of the paper and i've had her for 3 months and now shes sick. I'd say that 70% of the animals that came from the paper were in good shape before the ad in the paper. there are rescues out there that will take them.
thanks

I'm not going to bore you with the common sense stuff. I heard it all when I bought my first burm a few years back and have only been bitten once by just using common sense. I also always use hooks to pick up my burms. No its not because im afraid of them, it just minimizes bites. The main thing I can give you advice on is to be prepared cage-wise. Your burm will grow very quickly if fed correctly so try to be ahead of the game and have a larger cage ready. This is very hard to do as procrastination is way too easy, but to save some money (from last second purchases) try to plan ahead and have cages/space ready. I have personally had burms go from 4 feet, 10 pounds to 8 feet 50 pounds in 2 months. Yes you read that correctly! So keep that in mind as they can outgrow a cage that has plenty of space in no time. Good luck and if you have any problems or more questions never be afraid to ask!
