Breeding corns in a school setting

cmscorns May 20, 2003 08:27 AM

I am a teacher in Michigan and am looking for other teachers who are breeding corns in their classrooms. I would like to set up a line of communication between my students and the students in the other classes so that they can share their experiences. I am going to use my snakes as a way to teach genetics to the students, so they would benefit from hearing about other breeding successes.

I'm a Special Ed teacher in Austin, TX. My students this year were in 6th grade. Next year, I'll follow them into 7th grade and teach Life Science.
I didn't let them watch the snakes breed this year, but they all know it happened, and are expecting to see the babies in August, when we return.
They are well aquainted with the 2 adult normals I keep in class, but should be pleasantly surprised when they see the 4 types of offspring: both parents are het for snow.
The year is almost out, but it would be great to have the students link up next year.
