Hey, where's the "Sockhead" Goinis?

BlueKing Aug 10, 2006 04:55 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHA. . .Sorry, couldn't resist that one. . .
I guess someone got a lil' too offensive? And the thread killer came and WOOOOOOSH!!! or should I say FLUSHHHH!!!

Like I said: Don't HATE - PARTICIPATE!!!

And just to show my sincereness: Here's one of my goinis that I bought last year as a "pure" in DAYTONA of all places. But I have strong feelings that this one is a Brooksi cross. . . But why did I buy her knowing this from the start? That's really the most important question to ask: The answer is simple: I liked the way she looked that's all! Of course if I ever sold her I would at least make a mention that there IS a possibility of some brooksi in that one:
Honesty Is the best policy . . .

Here's the goini that was sold to me as a 100% goini (but its' belly is entirely yellow. . .)

"goini" can't have yellow bellies? How can you judge a "goini" by the color of it's belly? You know yellow is a common pigment in most all kingsnakes.

BlueKing Aug 10, 2006 11:27 AM

Well, Let's put it this way then: This is my first Goini that I've seen that had absolutely NO black pigment on its' belly. In addition to that she's a lot lighter looking (dorsally) than all the others I've seen. BUT REMEMBER: This is not to say that this is a bad snake - I liked her looks a lot. As a matter of fact she was the ONLY snake I bought at Daytona last year!
And NO I'm not going to say she's a cross for sure. But I still think that (based on her appearance) there's a good possibility that she is. . .
Here's another (goini) I also bought because I liked him. I was told he was a GOINI at the Carolina show. What do you think? I think he's got some Cali in him. But once again: I liked him and bought him! So hopefully this won't start a war with words, as I DO welcome honest opinions - hopefully with some maturity. . .

Cheers . . . beers . . . but no spears!

"yellow belly goini" then a "goini" that looks like a corn AND now a "goini" that looks like a eastern, well there your snakes so call em what you want, no offence i'm just in a good mood today.

BlueKing Aug 10, 2006 12:00 PM

At least you admit that that at least one of them (not counting the going/corn/keyboard cross, lol) don't look like goini to you.
Yes, the black and white one was sold to me as a 100% Goini at the Carolina show. Ok. . .nuff' ramblin about that old topic. . . HAVE A GREAT DAY!

Pattern wise, that looks an awful lot like the Cal King I bought from Alaska. Mine is a completely different color form, but the bands are not typical Cal King bands.

are they breeding strange cals in Alaska?

FunkyRes Aug 10, 2006 12:17 PM

Here's pics of the cal king I'm referring to.
She shed just two days ago (and ate yesterday)

Belly:

Notice it is almost completely cream, with just a few chocolate spots.

Back:

The cream bands are not as wide as a 50/50 but are a lot wider than typical cal king. I think a side effect of them being wider is that the base of the bands (where belly of snake meets side) is even wider than normal, resulting in the chocolate color almost looking like spots.

There are also several places on her where adjacent white bands join to result in chocolate spotting.

I think she is escaped product of captive breeding, and is a form of abberant - and not true "banded". The person I bought her from said she was found as a hatchling someones backyard in Sacramento. Given how common abberant cal kings are in pet stores in California, and how well they escape, and how far Sacramento is from striped cal kings, I really do think she is a CB escapee and not a locale snake. But I could be wrong.

I see what you mean she is obviously an escaped c.b.,IMO.

BlueKing Aug 11, 2006 05:01 AM

I like that one!!! If you breed her next year I would like a baby or two!!!!!!!

I don't think she will breed next year.
She is 24 inches long right now (sold to me as 30 but whatever, I didn't buy her for the size). She was super skinny, she has fattened up some but is still a little skinny.

I was trying to power feed her (feeding her every four days) to get her fat and get her to grow, and she was doing fine - but about a week ago she regurgitated. I cleaned her cage completely, and didn't feed her again until she shed (I fed her wedesnday) - so far she's kept it down, but I'm putting her on once a week schedule, and not offering her too much - regurgitation is not what I want to have happen. Very next stool is going to my vet.

Anyway, unless she grows a foot in next four months, she's not going to brumate this winter. I'd rather have her healthy and breed in '08 and than try to push her faster than she should be pushed.

She'll probably be paired with a WC "textbook" banded male.
All my males are WC "textbook" banded males.

>>I love the nice deep bluish/black, white on the lips and yellow on top

Yeah, when I first laid eyes on her from above I thought she was a nigra! She's a lot darker than most of the splendidas I've seen - maybe she has some nigrata in her? In the sun, its possible to see she's actually a very deep brown!

BTW she finally ate for me!

Cheers,

John D
