Ok, about a month ago, a friend IMed me and told me he and his dad had found a bunch of snakes in a brickpile and that he was trying to kill them all. My friends dad had been stomping them. I begged him to stop and drove the 3 hrs to go rescue them. They turned out to be ringnecks. I didnt know the area, so didnt know where a good place to release them would be, it was the southern part of the state. Ringnecks havent been found in my part of the state since the 60s so i didnt want to release them here. I didnt intend to keep them because I had read that they dont make good pets, dont eat well usually in captivity ect, and I didnt really want to take them from the wild. So I thought Id take them to my dads next time I went, he lives in the eastern part of the state, where they do exist. Its now been a month and I havent gotten out that way yet to see my dad. The snakes are now eating right in front of me, they seem to have adjusted very well. There are 2 of them in a 20 gal long aquarium, with 5 different hides, on a substrate of topsoil mixed with a little sand. I have pillbugs in there to keep down the population of dirt mites. So Im thinking Ive had them this long now, Id kind like to keep them, its still going to be a few weeks before I can get to my dads. I was wondering if I should hibernate them though. I know its important for the health of box turtles, what about these guys, and if so, anyone have any pointers?
