CheriS & Others...Help w/ eggs, please.

ToniaD Aug 03, 2003 09:14 PM

I have eggs incubating that were laid 3 wks. ago today. My first time; my beardies first fertile clutch. I took the eggs out of laying box exactly the way they were laid, (I marked them before moving them.) Everything's going great, but looking at them tonight, I became concerned. Veins are spidering across the top, but every one of them looks like yolk is in the bottom. They're all plump, firm & white. Am I just being nervous thinking that something's wrong, or IS something wrong? Thanks so much for your replies!

Are you seeing the veins normally or when you candle them? If it's when you candle them, then yes, you are being paranoid. Once I have candled my eggs and see there are good veins growing, I leave them alone. The more you mess with them, the more you risk messing them up.

Good luck & let us know when they start hatching.

You seeing veins in the eggs through the shell? Just want to clarify which it is, veins in the eggs when in the incubator of when you shine a light at them?

Either way, if they are plump and white, leave them be and they should develop fine. Only time i have seen veins while in the incubators is when the shell is so thin it is tranparent and still the eggs developed and hatched out fine. But the mother may need more calcium than she has had in th past and in the future when she is gravid.
