20 Year Old Newts

texasgirl005 Aug 10, 2006 06:42 PM

Hi, just wanted to share with other amphibian owners our story.
My husbands mother purchased him 3 newts in 1986, dropped them in a tank and they have been there since. One died last summer and another died this morning, we still have one left. They are well over 19 years old this year.
I have heard that reptiles and amphibians can live long lives and these newts definitely have.
Just wanted to share, we are pretty amazed and feel lucky to have this last little guy. He is looking really feeble but still swims around and eats alright.

That's an awesome feat! Congratulations. It's always sad when old pets leave us, but you guys obviously did something right to have them live this long.
