Screened Aquarium Covers

keown Aug 10, 2006 11:48 PM

I have not kept a snake in an aquarium for years...I have always used standard cages. However, I have a couple of venomous that I would like to house in aquariums (probably 25-30 gal size) "IF" I can find any well-made, sturdy, secure and lockable aquarium tops. Does anyone make aquarium covers these days that would be suitable to use with hot species? So far, all the ones I have located have been both flimsy and not lockable.

Thanks for any information.

You could in theory use the same technique I used to make a top for a corner 40 gallon tank ( it was a weird shape ) Basically, I used a replacement screen window kit and cut ewverything to fit right into that little groove in the tops of aquariums... Worked and looks GREAT. It took me a couple of tries to get the screen to fit and look just right... In your case, add a couple hinges on one side and a couple lock tabs on the opposite side... However, I can understand if you don't want to make a top for your HOT cage... not sure how confident you are of your building/manufacturing skill sets...

Not without significant modification. Enough that you might be better off building from scratch to begin with.

There are examples over on VenomousReptiles.org

actually im going to point u in another direction...lol...plexiglass 1/4 inch thick get it custom cut at lowes...get a door put in the top...(section cut out of the corner then attach it with hinges to the cage...put a bolt lock to connect the plexiglass top to the top hinged door..same as i just did...drill holes in the top for venting and hanging lights and such...i just did that...done it all myself..works great and i have 25 pounds worth of cats that stand up on top of it without any worries...think about it..they would never escape if you want pics i can try to get some...would have to find someone with a dig. cam lol

The ESU screens are the best out there. Just buy the metal clips used to secure them. Its impossible to open that screen once those clips are on.
Use 4 one on each corner of the screen cover than thats attached clips under the tanks frame.

The snake would have to tear through the screen lol as those clips dont move once on . If you have long fingernails they are a nightmare but they work great.

You've given me some places to start looking.
