I'm confused

kellybee Aug 11, 2006 02:28 AM

Ok, so we've all seen and would love to own the king of collareds, the Dickersonae. I believe these are found in quite remote regions, are difficult to come by etc. I also know they are blue in colour, and dont have the yellow features of so many other variations.

I have also taken a shine to Modoc, the prettiest collared I think I've ever seen. He's also Mexican, but he is definitely not a BLUE mexican. In addition to this I have seen Mexicans that look a lot like my Easterns, and some that look like aquaflames.... (??? !!!)

My question is, how many different types of mexican collareds are there, and what are they? I've looked at the maps available online and still dont get it (And yes, I am blonde).

I would bet my bottom pound coin one of you knows, lol. Could one of you maybe help me out (Please)?

since im mexican-america i thought id reply.
The collareds you see that are from Mexico that look like yours are probably C.collaris because their range goes into many northern states in mex. The sonoran collared is also in the northern state of sonora, but not the most colorful of them. The two more popular collareds from mexico are C.vestigium found in S.D county down through baja california. THe blue dickersone is only found in the coast of Sonora, Mexico as well as Isla Tiburon (Shark Island) in the Gulf of California.
There are a few other collareds in Mexico but little is known about them ie. Crotaphytus collaris melanomaculatus, Crotaphytus antiquus. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

A little insight there, the last few you mentioned I've not heard of before, and believe me I did my research before I bought mine.

Very interesting that there are more out there than the ones we see referred to regularly. Thanks for your help, I think I get the basis of it all now

What are the Yellow Mexicans, they ones like my favourite chap Modoc? They have solid lemon-ish colours to their front end and browns to the rear

He's probably a C.Collaris as these come in a variety of greens, yellows etc. It really depends what state hes from exactly.
by the way, How did you get, or why do you think you have a mexican species?
