CRESTED GECKO DIET

saiya Aug 11, 2006 09:39 AM

Does anyone have any personal experience with the T-Rex crested gecko diet, as well as the dust. so that you can give me your opinion on it. Im getting my gecko in 2 weeks and am wondering about whether I should purchase any. The breeder Im getting him from has not recommended it. Im just curious about how much of a necessity it is.
Thanks for your time

Crested gecko diet is a complete meal replacement powder. It contains protein and all the vits and minerals your gecko needs. It was developed by everyone's favorite crested breeder. It was developed to be the only thing you feed your gecko, but many people use it as a suppliment to baby food. The basic idea is, if you don't want to deal with crickets and fruit, the gecko can do just fine on CGD alone. I also believe CGD is cheaper overall, but only lasts 6 months open.

My personal experience is that our first crested loved to eat crickets too much when she was younger, so we'd offer her dusted crickets and a small bowl of fruit mixed with CGD. As she got older, she enjoys eating the CGD straight (well, mixed with water as per the directions) and has gone to eating less and less crickets. Makes sense as she no longer is growing as much. Using this method our gecko grew very well and is quite chubby at 5 months. We are just switching over to feeding crickets less often and having fresh CGD avail. For treats she gets a scoop of organic baby food of one of her favorite flavors every once in a while.

I have no idea why a breeder wouldn't recommend CGD, especially if you are willing to also feed some crickets when the gecko is young and growing. IMHO that is the best way to go. Good luck, hope this helps.

Ok great thanks so much. I have heard different things from different people and in general all good opinions about it. I dont know why the breeder Im getting him from has not mentioned or even recommened it. She doesnt use it...I probably would have purchased it anyway despite if she uses it. Thanks so much.

It's the bomb. It's all I feed my animals. Simple - no bugs to get out - and they eat it with gusto.

I've noticed that the newer mixes of CG diet are even more appealing to my animals.

T-Rex diet is excellent.

I used Crested Gecko diet with all of my animals.
I have hatched out several hundred cresteds ,have around a 96% hatch rate.Have never had a animal suffer calcium crash and , feed crickets as a occasional treat ,but not at all a staple.
I can only recomend it..its treated me very well indeed.

I started out with babyfood- it was what I was taught. My hatchlings were very small and not growing much. I started feeding CGD and they are getting bigger and healthier everyday. They have about doubled in size in the last month. I would definately recommend it to anyone.
