hi... i saw a little black round thing, about the size of a pinhead, walking around on my lizard today. then i noticed some black things underneath his scales in the softer portion of his upper thigh. some of the black things were oblong... sorta. i'm hoping this is dirt. help anyone?

I had mites that came from the petstore upon purchase of my iguana...but didn't realize I had them until a week later....What I did was thourougly disinfect the cage and all the accessories with 10% bleach/ water solution....then put them (NOT THE TANK) in the oven and baked them at 275 degrees until they were dry to kill any remaining bacteria or mites....then I soaked my iguana in the bath with Povidine-Iodine 10% solution diluted to kill any mites that didn't die from drowning. If this is the correct method to use and I would makes sure first you'd have to repeat the procedure in a few days because remaining eggs could hatch and spread again....Also makes sure that the beardie doesn't drink the water with the idodine in it! Does anyone else agree with this procedure for beardies? If not let me know since I am new to this forum! THANKS! GOOD LUCK!

Well, your disinfection methods of the tank and furniture sound fine. I don't really know about getting the mites of the body. Though, I think that would work on a beardie if it did for an ig. There are also some products you can buy to get rid of mites. I don't know if they work well or not.
