This is one of the largest I have ever seen come out of the egg. Doesn't look like this one will need to eat for a long while.

the stripe pattern show's up in hypo fla and not normal?

Nokturnel Tom Aug 11, 2006 11:55 AM

Well Hypos in general have a much different look than normals..but I have never seen a normal with more than a 1 inch stripe on the neck. I produced one like this 2 years ago, wish I never let it go. Tom Stevens

I believe i have never seen even a partial striped normal fla.
Both my male hypos have partial striping on their tails.
How about the extreme lav. with a full stripe that would soooooo-cool.

ZFelicien Aug 11, 2006 12:06 PM

I've wondered something similar for a while, like the head pattern and the stripes in the hypos you don't see it in other brooks muations...

i saw a striped lavender once but i don't see many people poping out striped lavender, axanthic, snow, even WS Brooksi at random! yet the striped/aberrant in the hypo gene pool can pop up from two banded parents??? (more than just what we make of it... i think so!)

maybe it's possible for a normal fla to have a full stripe. without the use of cali blood, lol!

BLUEROSY Aug 11, 2006 03:24 PM

I have been breeding the hypo brooks from Doug Beard and The Love stock since there inception. I have never gotten a "het" hypo with any striping. It only shows up in the hypos. I breed a lot of hypo males to het females so I think its just something that comes along with that abmorality when the hypo gene is present.

JETZEN Aug 11, 2006 03:34 PM

you think of the possibility of a striped extreme Lav.

Thats a dead end question.

I have never seen striping in lavenders unless they are related to cal kings....which they all are. I have seen it in some 50/50 crosses and such. Never a fully stripe one on a bred out lavender though.

I think the hypo gene lends itself to a bit of striping which has nothing to do with Cal kings or any other kind of hybrid breeding. It just the anomality that comes with it.

JETZEN Aug 11, 2006 06:23 PM

How about a reverse stripe? i'm thinkin that might be possible.

foxturtle Aug 11, 2006 06:13 PM

It's not a common occurrence, but I have seen quite a few of them. I've seen 1 or 2 with full body stripes. And several others with a halfway stripe. I see more "reverse stripes" than regular light colored stripes.

I think pattern abberancies on Florida kings are ugly though, so I really haven't bothered taking too many pics. Here's one I caught with a reverse stripe a few inches long close to its neck:

Looks like a juvenile colorwise, but its really a 3 foot plus adult male. I can probably dig up some more photos of FL kings with stripes, but I'll do that later, gotta leave for work now.

JETZEN Aug 11, 2006 06:21 PM

and i would'nt mind seeing that stripe go all the way down it's back, also that's a diff. looking fla than what i'm used to.
thanks for sharing

That king came from around Lake Okeechobee, where most non-brooksi Florida kings originate from. He's from an area where a lot of brighter colored kings are found, too. It's unusual to find an all black one like that in that particular locality. I think the week after I found that one, a friend of mine found a nice yellow one under the same piece of trash.

JETZEN Aug 12, 2006 02:48 PM

The variance of them even within the same area makes me realize we're dealin with a lot more than what we know.

bluerosy Aug 11, 2006 08:31 PM

I like that. Can we see more later on?

crimsonking Aug 11, 2006 09:53 PM

not exactly striped but I thought this female was just ugly enough to be cool. The lack of pattern sort of makes a "stripe" I guess, especially at the tail.
