How long in a Car?

bpkid Aug 11, 2006 05:42 PM

I'm picking up a baby cornsnake tomorrow, and my mom insists on making a stop before we get home. How long can Cornsnakes go in a car without dying? The temperature tomorrow will be high 81. Would that be fine?

As long as you don't leave it in the car without A/C, it'll be fine. If you need to stop, take the corn in with you.
Bring along a backpack or something to keep the snake in if it will make anyone uncomfortable.

I recommend taking it in with you where ever you go. If I HAVE to have my corns in the car, and have to stop somewhere, the snake comes inside with me. I do not care if it is out to dinner, or a store. Don't forget that the inside of a car heats up at least 10 degrees, and still heats up even with the windows down.

I'll second, err, third that. Take it in with you where ever you go. Even with the windows cracked open a little bit, it will get too hot in the car for the snake. Have you ever seen the warnings on the news and in petshops etc about not leaving your pets in the car because it will get too hot in there for them? If your mom says that you can't take it in the stores with you, ask her if she can drop you off at the house before she goes shopping. Good luck,
Rob

imagine what the sun can do to your snake. When you pick up the snake, take it inside with you, no matter what, I take frosty everywhere with me when I take him out of this house. He goes inside everywhere or I don't stop. You don't want to drop a lot of money on your cornsnake and then lose him an hour later from polonged exposure to the heat inside your car. For test purposes, leave a thermometer in there just once for a couple hours, that'll open your eyes to the dangers of leaving an animal in your car hon, and even if you already know all this, then open someone elses eyes hon. Good luck with ya baby.

Yeah, I was sort of afraid, I just wanted second opinions. Would it be ok in a snake bag in my pocket?

I don't see why not, just be sure that he's in there securely, I carry mine around in a plastic tub that fits rather neatly into my purse so he doesn't get to warm or too much of a jumble. He gets to lay flat and nobody wigs out because OH MY GOD THERE IS A SNAKE IN THE STORE!!! When he was a baby he used to curl up in my pocket and just hide out there, I was in the grocery store one day after I bought pinkys and he was sticking his lil head out and this girl behind the register said omg I dont want to scare you but did you know you have a snake on you??? don't move I can get it, I giggled and said no need, he like it there lol.
