Help needed! Very concerned about gecko

cherisse Aug 11, 2006 07:59 PM

I purchased a new gecko recently she is about 4-5 months old. I have noticed over the past couple of days that her tail is flaking. It seems to even have a small cut in one of the folds. the rest of her skin is fine except for the tail. I have two gecko's in a large tank and the other gecko does not show any of these symtoms. They have had a humid hide from the start and I spray the moss with sink water. The skin does not appear to be an old shed or anything, Whats going on? Thanks so much for reading.

Not sure exactly what's going on there, but I know that if either of my geckos had symptoms like that, they'd be headed for a vet within a day or two at most, assuming it didn't get better within that day or two.

Also, on a related note, new animals should *always* be quarantined for a minimum of a month in order to make sure they don't have parasites that could be passed to your existing healthy animals. When/if you take the new gecko to the vet, please get a fecal exam done too, that way you can be more sure of the safety of your other gecko with regard to any possible diseases.
