A cool L. pyro pyro

Rick Staub Aug 12, 2006 02:28 AM

All of Kerby's great looking hatchlings inspired me to post. I have been working with a Chiricahuan Mtn (SE Arizona) line of pyros with white sides for 3 generations now. I don't know how it is passed on but it is definitely genetic. All four hatchlings had complete lateral fusion of the white bands though the hatchling below was the most extreme.

I just seen your black belly in the classifieds, do you have any more black belly pics you could share? thanks in advance.

I'll try and take some pics of the adults tomorrow. Last time I tried they were completely uncooperative.

Kerby... Aug 12, 2006 10:21 AM

Nice Rick, about 6-7 years ago, Tom Brennan and Marty Feldner (not sure which as they used to go herping together at the time) took a pic of a similar one from the Sky Islands. And I believe Rich Gassaway found one like it too.

But either way, that is some nice work!

I remember Rich or Marty posting about that. This line actually originates from a male with complete lateral fusion of the white that Harry Greene found above Portal.

I have seen a few Chiricahua pyros with side striping like that, but not one as nice as yours. Here is one I caught in the Santa Ritas a few years back with side striping.

Very nice. You can really see the pattern in that hanging shot. I may have to start using that in my pics.
