52 NEW BABIES!!! A quick question.

dsheldon Aug 12, 2006 10:41 AM

I just hatched 52 beautiful new babies and had a quick question. I will get some pictures up here a little later but someone told me that I should expect 10 out of those 52 to die due to not eating. Is this a reasonable ratio to expect? That seems a little high to me. Also any tips on feeding and how to make sure they all eat would be extremely helpful. Thanks for your help in advance guys.

I don't know if that is a good ratio to die due to not eating or other reasons. To best ensure they do have every opportunity to thrive, house them in as small groups as possible, no more thna 5 per cage, with plenty of basking areas and hides. Feed 3-4 times a day appropriate sized crickets and separate by size as they grow. Remove any that appear to be overly aggressive towards their cage mates to prevent nipped toes and tails. Any that don't seem to be thriving, separate them by themselves and work to get them thriving.

Make sure you have the proper basking temps for babies (105-115F) with good uvb lights.

My ? is are they all from the same dragon! In nature its made that way so only the strongest ones survive. You can cut down on losses with good care since they are in a controlled enviorment. All I can say is you have your hands full Good Luck!It would be beutiful if they all live.

Keep them in groups of five or six (by size) and feed and heat them properly and you shouldn't lose any.
