Looking for info on smooth/rough greens

themann42 Aug 12, 2006 12:38 PM

i am looking for any personal experience in taking care of these snakes. are they pretty similar? easy/difficult to maintain? also, a main thing i can't seem to find anywhere online is what size their enclosure should be. anybody know? i want to buy a smooth green snake, but can't find any, and from what i know rough green snakes can get larger. how well do they tolerate being held? any information is helpful, thanks!

I am not too sure about smooth greens.
But I have an adult female Rough Green (that laid "dud" eggs last month). She is about 2-2&1/2 feet long. I keep her in a ten gallon tank with lots of branches to climb, and a small water dish. I use UVB, and a heat pad. She was WC about 4-5 months ago. And she is doing great eating grass hoppers, and crickets!
I don't think the Rough Green would be too much to take on. They do not get too big, and even though they get "long" they do not get very fat at all.
As far as holding it...
I do not hold mine that much just because I like to watch it more than hold it. Most of them do not mind being held for a short time. I have never had mine try to bite or strike and most of them will not try to.

Hope this helps,
Snakester's Reptiles.
