I've been looking to find a albino or ghost corn snake for awhile now. Well, I found someone in Sacramento who has hatchling but the albinos haven't eaten yet. But then I was contacted by a lady who has babies born two days ago. All albinos. The mother is a snow albino she said and the father is a high white albino. She is going to wait untill they eat before selling them. I have a ten gallon with a uth a water dish and some hide spots. What kind of substrate do you guys suggust? And do hatchlings need anything special?

Baby snakes do best when housed in small enclosures, like something the size of a shoebox. Although everyone has a substrate of choice, you cannot go wrong with newspaper. I recommend that you read some care sheets to be better prepared to take care of your snake. I have a section on my website called "The Natural History, Care & Breeding of Corn Snakes" that you might want to check out. There are a heck of a lot of other care sheets out there, as well as books specifically on corn snakes.

I have a five gallon critter keeper. Would that be better? I have a garter snake that I've had for 5 months now and hes doing great. I also am a obsessive researcher I just like to have the opinions of people who have been there done that as well.

I'm glad to hear that you do your homework!
Yes, the 5-gallon is the better "starter" container.
It won't be long (usually 6-9 months) before it can move to a 10.

My corn went from a 10 gallon to a 20 gallon in a year. He is just an inch or so under the length of the 20 now (bit over a year).

I never heard of a corn not doing well in a 10 gallon from the get go and mine by the 9th or 100th month mark had begun to outgrow the 10 .

I did feed him in the deli cup he was sgipped in first few weeks but even that was only for a few weeks as he than ate well.

I think many keep their corns in to small tanks ESP since they love to climb.

Hey Tim,

What is the second pix you posted on this thread?
It looks like an albino, but has no white rings, just specks?
Will it develop rings eventually, or are they diappearing?
