Feeding Questions

kckump Aug 03, 2003 11:10 PM

How often should beardies be feed crikets.
I had some one tell me they feed crickets once a week.
I read some where else they feed then crickets every other day and Veggies the rest of the time.

I think that would be ok if you can get them to eat some kind of pellets, but that is like pulling teeth.

Any suggestions for getting breadies to eat pellets would be helpful.

If the beardies only eat crickets and vegies should they be feed crickets twice a day?

Thanks
Ken

Young beardies should be fed crickets (or another source of protein) every day. At a very young age (3-6 weeks) they should be fed crickets 2-3 times a day. Adults can be fed crickets a bit less often (once a day & occasional days with just greens).

As far as introducing pellets:
As long as your beardie is eating greens/salad on a regular basis, put the pellets on top of the greens. They should eat them without a problem. Hope that helps.

Dragons from birth to about 2 months should be fed crickets 3 times a day. As much as they can eat in 10-15 minutes. From 2 months and older, should get crickets twice a day, again as much as they can eat in 10-15 minutes. Salads should be offered every day and left with them for the day, changed at each feeding to make sure they don't get wilted or soiled. Adult dragons only need crickets 2-3 times a week with greens every day.

IN addition to the feedings agove, babies should have their crickets dusted once a day with calcium D3 and a multivitamine. Juveniles should have crickets dusted once every other day. Adults about twice a week.

Greens should be collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion greens, enchive and escarole. These should be the stables...added for variety, parsley, kale, romaine, mixed vegetables (the frozen kind, thawed and chopped) with some non citrus fruits and flowers (dandelion flowers, hispiscus)
