Is Fancy mice and feeder mice the same species?

longtang Aug 03, 2003 11:28 PM

Hi all:

As you know, I have had some bad luck with breeding Petco mice. Someone suggested that I buy Petco Fancy mice which are meant to be pets (as opposed to the feeder white mice which are taken away from their moms too early).

Are fancy mice the same species was my regular mice? Will I be able to mix breed fancy mice and regular white mice together and get fertile offsprings? (horses and mules produce infertile offsprings because they are not the same species). I am looking to breed fertile offsprings. Will I get fertile offsprings by crossing petco white mice with fancy mice?

Thx for the help. In advance!

I took a look @ fancy mice the other day @ Petco. Their faces looked different than the regular white mice. That was the reason I posted the question to ask if they were the same species.

Good to know that they are the same and I can cross breed and get fertile babies.

thx.!
