NBC 11 (San Francisco, California) 11 August 06 3-Day Hunt For 2-Foot Lizard Ends
Kyoto, Japan: It took three days, but Japanese authorities finally captured a 2-foot lizard that was loose in Kyoto's sewers.
A housewife raised the alarm when she saw an animal tail poking out of a drainage grill.
That's when sewer authorities discovered that there was a large lizard in the pipes.
Using a video camera normally used to detect cracks in the pipes, they found out the animal was actually a water monitor.
After following the lizard through the pipes for days, workers finally cornered him.
Authorities believe the lizard is a pet that either escaped or was purposely discarded.
Police said they will keep the animal for awhile to see if its owner comes to pick it up.
