Emergency Vet Visit Today...

GoldyGirl Aug 13, 2006 08:15 PM

Woke up, turned on the snake light and my rescue female(who is 15 years old) has about 6 inches of skin ripped off her body. Call the vet, had to take her in for emergency visit. Got some silver cream for the raw skin. She was severly abused before I got her. The guy starved her for 6 months and then was going to freeze her if someone didn't take her so the petstore I go to took her and gave her to me. She had so many layers of eyecaps, the vet got those off today too and she's on eye drops and injectible baytril to fight off a respiratory infection and mouth rot. She's in bad shape Her skin got caught on a tiny sliver of my huge piece of driftwood. It peeled away because she had lost so much weight the skin is just kinda loose and hanging there. Doctor said she should be ok though. I really hope so I feel terrible for the poor girl. Anyone who treats an animal like that should be shot in my opinion. Thought I would just let it out about today, it was very upsetting. Thanks for listening.

Thank goodness she found her way to you! This is probably the best care she has ever been given.
It annoys me too when people abuse animals & don't give them what they need to thrive. Why get the snake if you aren't going to feed it. She probably didn't have the right heat or water either.
You should feel good about yourself for saving her.

I agree with Beth, and if you need a shooter, I'll volenteer(sp)

My hat is off to you sir. I have been doing rescue work for 35 years and I think you are doing a grate thing for the animals.
I would just say that you should probably pull the wood out of the cage. A lot of reptiles that are emaciated there skin gets paper thin as well as louse. keep up the good work !!
PS. GOOD LUCK WITH ALL YOU DO!

Good luck with her Kris, I'm glad she found a home that will care for her. Post some pics when she is back to a nice healthy looking ball again!
