Intestinal Impaction

Findaratot Aug 13, 2006 08:47 PM

Hi, I posted a couple days ago about my male veiled chameleon 2yr old not eating. It seems that he is not deficating either which probably means he has some intestinal impaction due to eating mealworms. So far I've given him a warm water bath and went out and got some wax worms (I heard these can help by 'greasing' him up a bit). I was wondering if there is anything else I can try. And also what is the probability that this could be fatal? I know if left untreated it can cause death, but hopefully I've caught it early enough that it will just pass out of him.
Any thoughts on this subject would be apreicated

Some people have used a little mineral oil on an insect, but I don't know if it works or even if its okay to use...never tried it.

Trying the warm soak one more time and massaging from the "waist" down very gently has worked for me when I had a chameleon that had internal surgery become constipated/impacted.

If that doesn't work I would take him to a vet. If he is really impacted and you can't get it to move, then it will be fatal (as you said)....but I can't tell you what his chances will be if he ends up at the vets.
