70 days and waiting

kingaz Aug 13, 2006 08:59 PM

I have a clutch that was laid on June 3rd. The eggs still look fine, but I've never had to wait this long. I'm gettin' nervous. What are the longest incubation times other people have had? I doubt I would cut slits, I'll just let nature take it's course. If they don't hatch, oh well, next year.

I've never had any go that long. Not to say that it couldn't happen. Most books say 57-68 days. All of mine this year have gone in 48 -54 days. I'm incubating right @ 85 degrees F. What temp are you incubating at? Maybe the ride to Washington has something to do with it????

I'm at 82 degrees. I started getting concerned after 65 days. I didn't plan on breeding this year, and won't be totally crushed if this clutch fails. It's just a shame to wait this long for nothing. The eggs have grown considerably in the last few weeks. If nothing happens in the next day or two, I may cut into one egg and see what's up. This clutch was laid 3 days after I moved to Oregon.

Here's mom and dad.

Beautiful pair! Would the white one be a Dan V?

Yes, the white one is from Dan V, the other (female) is an F1 from Vivid. I have an '02 white female from Dan V., but gave her this year off due to my move. I will be breeding 3 females next year.

considering I took 30 eggs with me in a car for 10 hours w/ temps from 75-87 (I actually placed a temp probe in the back of the van to keep records of highs and lows around the egg containers). Mine were laid on May 3rd, 13th, and 14th and all hatched at about day 67 so 70 is not so bad. If you get to 80 I'd slit them.

6 are out of the egg and cruising around, and the other three are pipping, I'll post pics after a shed. The average incubation temp was 82, but I allowed it to fluctuate between about 75 and 87 degrees. No incubator, just in my rack on perlite and sphagnum moss.
