Daytona Show lodging problems

mchambers Aug 14, 2006 09:50 AM

If you are going to the upcoming Daytona show and going to be staying at the evidently " only " place to stay at, the Hilton Beach Hotel is strictly enforcing NO reptiles in rooms at all. They will have a " climate controlled ? " trailer parked out side for your herps ? Let it be known that a refund is unlikely it is reported unless it is done very soon. I don't know what happens if reptiles are caught in room. Meaning, are the reptiles confiscated ? Are you evicted ? It is perceived that the promoter knew of this before hand and also the Hotel has had this policy for sometime but now is enforcing it.

But they can sure throw you out with no refund. I would ask them how they plan to maintain security of that trailer to make sure you get back every animal you check into it. And what the protocal is to prevent pathogens by packing it all into one box like that.

I can understand the policy, to some degree. It is easier to just say no than it is to enforce limits on size or being venomous. And with enough people bringing in enough deli cups full of animals, something will get loose anyway. But it is sad none the less.

I for one would not use the trailer option, I would just stay at a differnt hotel in the area and drive to the show.

People were bringing in snakes by the box full. There was no one at all enforcing ANYTHING! No searches, no confiscations, no nothing! All was cool!

They tried to enforce it early friday then realized the futility of it and stopped checking bags of people coming into the building. I also heard at least one person got creative and wrapped his stuff in birthday wrapping paper lol.
