Ideas for new Gecko....

MagPie Aug 14, 2006 07:14 PM

Right now I have a male high yellow (i think) that I have had for a year. Now he is a little over a year old and I thought I would like to try breeding. I wanted another gecko anyway, whether I decide to breed in the end (I'm still debating that anyway). There is a show coming up in about a month or so and I wanted to pick up a female there. I did find a good reptile store near my house but the only normal/high yellows. Man oh man did I want the one male they had there. He was about 4 years and such a fatty X3

Annnyway, I wanted to know what morph I could breed to my male that would produced babies of both morphs, if thats even possible? I'll post a picture of the male as soon as I can get to a better internet connection....ok I think I got it to work. This is a picture of him a few months ago (spots have broken up moreso since then) http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v244/MagPie8203/ed2.jpg I have new pictures of him on the other computer.

I won't be breeding for a few years at most, since I have a heavy debt right now that I need to pay off (yes I can still take care of two leo's, but a bunch of babies o.o that'll have to wait). So age won't matter to me much. Any thoughts would be great.

Thanks!

It is impossible to know what kind of babies your leo will produce with any kind of female morph without knowing something about his genetics. If he is heterozygous for a recessive trait, such as albinism, you can breed to an albino female and you have a chance of getting both albino and normal babies. There is also the possibility that he is not carrying any recessive genes and no matter what gecko you breed him to, you will always get normal or high yellow babies.

But in my opinion, there is nothing wrong with high yellows and normals. I think some of them can be very beautiful, and your boy has a very pretty yellow color.

If you get a giant female you can get giant and normal sized offspring. Same with a mack snow.
