my frogs tounge is sticking out

truefate Aug 04, 2003 01:42 AM

I am a little worried about my whites tree frog. I noticed yesterday that his mouth was open a little. he seemed to have some dirt in his mouth so I rinsed it away with some water and a syringe. but he still keeps it open a little and his tounge seems to hang out slightly. what's wrong with him and what can I do for him?

It sounds like Metabolic bone disease to me. If it is there isn't much you can do about it. Are you supplimenting his food? I may not be right, so wait for someone else to reply about it. Thats just what I think it is.

Your description of the problem is meaningless without us knowing anything else about the animal. Post information about your set up as in temperatures, tank size, foods and supplements, and if there are any other animals in the same tank.

If you are not currently using any supplements on the frogs food, I recommend that you get it to a vet right away.

Maybe your little guy, is deydrated? When my little veiled chameleon became deydrated, we quickly took her to a specialty petstore in reptiles. SHe hadn't eaten in ahwile and she was very week. She was given a solution, to hopefully try to give her a boost, helping her to catch some food for herself. So, I syringed it to her, and her tongue eventually kind of stuck out, like yours? I think she was kind of dopesy then.

She died a few hours later, in my moms hand,
Poor chamele she was the best reptile I've ever owned.
