It's all about the pitch... I think the bass would scare them, but even rather loud sounds in higher ranges aren't noticed. I have a rattlesnake that rattles at the slighest disturbance so I consider her a good test of what snakes can and can't sense... How much the bass would bother them depends on the snake.

Loud music will vibrate the snakes container, even if it is a frequency above the snakes detection abilities. So the snake will "hear" the music and will very likely be extremely stressed.
Loud music, incense, smoking, air fresheners, etc have no place in the snake room of a conscientious keeper, IMHO. And the music doesn't have to be very loud. Even fairly quiet music or television sounds can disturb snakes.

I play guitar, and i dont strum it either. Back in the begining days of my herping I used to keep my atrox in a cage in my shop where my guitar setup was located. I did notice that when i was jamin my atrox would come out of the hide box and explore his cage, but never apeared "stressed". In fact there where several times that i would drop a thawed mouse in the cage and go to bending strings and afterword the mouse is gone. Im talkin about loud rock music, with effects pedals, turned up loud enough to make your ears bleed. I did often wonder if it bothered the herp, as they hear by vibration, but mine never gave any hint one way or the other. skinner
