Reddest Kingsville Hatchlings this year!

ginter Aug 15, 2006 08:28 AM

These guys usually hatch with some hint of reddish coloration but I have never hatched a clutch where the little guys showed as much color as they do this year. I have not done it but I always wondered if a diet rich in Beta carotine would enhance color. Any one ever try color enhancing diets on a snake? I know some folks do it with fish, and possibly lizards.

Ah, hatchlings, I love this time of year.......

Cheers, Ginter

I just recently got into the red phase western coachwhips and in researching found a breeder that has stated animals that are fed a diet of rodents injected with egg yolk (diluted with water) have a large increase in the amount of red shown. Those are some killer babies John! You’re the man! Take care!

Doug Moody utilized mecuricrome and methylade to treat fungi on eggs. This is the orange medicine your granny used to put on cuts and scrapes, burned like Hades too.

He said whenever he utilized this stuff, the hatchlings came out of (most of the time) and had orange patches on them. He said most of the time it stayed with them with no harm.
