Eco Earth who has used it?

quincy Aug 15, 2006 09:03 AM

Well I finally tried some.I bought 6 bricks.Im pretty impressed with it for my ball python. This winter when its dry I think this stuff will hold the humidity really well.He seemed to like it fine.
Im not however impressed with the mess it makes.I used it in my large vision cages for both my bluetongue and my boa.My blueTongue seems to hate it, and has been scratching at the glass to get out since I put it in.My boa promptly sat up on some rocks so she doesnt have to touch it.Although she is down in her bottom cage and she could go up to her second level with newspaper if she wanted to.
Maybe I will go back to aspen for them if they dont settle down in a few days.
Im curious how spot cleaning will work for this stuff though..

I love it the trick is to let it dry out it dries rather fast to in few hours in sun, Bucket with screen on it so it wont fly out if windy.

It will ofcourse dry inside in open bucket but takes few days .
Did you use it moist? Maybe thats why they didnt like it because its soft and no reason why they wouldnt like it. My snakes dig in it .

I use 1/2 the water the instructions call for but use HOT water than put cover on bucket the heat, humidity break the brick up real fast than since less water dries as fast .

I guess you could mix it with aspen if you prefer but for it its great stuff . My yr old ball loves it (well from what I can see lol)

I love it, I've mixed it with some reptibark for my ball pythons and it keeps things suitably humid for how dry it is around here, and my snakes can dig in it and rub on it and it looks great.
We've got some boas at work who're on dry forest bedding and they don't seem to mind it at all. They do like hiding up on their fake trees when it gets really dry though, and crawling around a lot when it's misted, so maybe that's the difference?
