DeKay's Brown Snake

I was out on my driveway this morning, looked down and saw this little guy. Here in central Oklahoma, we have been in a terrible drought this year. We had a significant thunderstorm last night that dumped some much needed rain. I'm not sure if the storm prompted the mom to have her babies, or if it just prompted this little one to come out of hiding. I spent some time looking around for others, but didn't find any.

Just outside my back door is a "garden" which usually has lots and lots of slugs in it. I haven't seen many this year though. Perhaps due to the drought? OR - the presence of my new found friend's mom and dad?!?! Anyway, after showing him/her off to my son, and snapping a few pics, I released him/her into the garden. Here's hoping he/she will have a long, happy life there, and I'll see fewer slugs!

They've been having babies lately in PA. I would bet it just got flushed out of its hiding place by the stormwater. I hope you find many more - they really are adorable.

I've been looking every time I step outside, but so far I haven't seen anymore. I'll take all of them I can get because I HATE slugs!
