New BRB litter

Jeff Clark Aug 15, 2006 01:25 PM

...I had my first BRB litter of the year born at midday today. 19 healthy normal babies. No slugs and no stillborns. Nine males and ten females. They all look to be the same size. I weighed one of them at 32 grams. Mother snake is a five year old from Dallas Zoo bloodlines. She is dark colored but has reasonably nice crescents. I got her in a trade two years ago and she had her first litter last year. I think I remember around a dozen to 15 in that litter. I was getting worried that I would have no baby BRBs to sell at the Daytona Expo.

Congrats! That's an unusually big litter isn't it? Good timing for Daytona.

Sounds like a very nice litter, good count, good size, good split.

Paul,
...This litter was a little strange. I had checked on the snakes less than an hour before and the next time I was in the snake room they were all delivered and had spread out all over the cage. There were no attached yolks and all of them were out of the membranes and crawling around like they were going someplace. It would not have made the "pile of babies in membranes" PIC that is characteristic for these snakes. Most of the babies allowed me to move them to plastic boxes and then to later probe them without even trying to bite. I will get a shot of a later litter if I see one that will make a better PIC.
