I read on sulcata station that you can feed your sulcata hibiscus, geraniums, hollyhock, and many other flowers (petals and leaves). I'm going to try to grow some of these things (specifically the 3 I've listed). Does anyone know if this includes all types of these flowers? And any idea where I can order bulbs/seeds to start these? My sulcata eats like a horse by the way lol so cute

Any other tips on food or anything else is greatly appreciated!!

Thank you!!

Hi,
I can only tell you about hibiscus- I have no information on the others.
Depending on what the climate is in your part of ther world hibiscus may or may not grow well, it's a tropical flowering bush or small tree.. it can't take cold temps so take care. Where I live in south Florida hibiscus is part of nearly everyones yard or landscape.
Once established it grows quickly with direct sunlight and high humidity/waterings. It can typically be purchased as a small plant or tree from a nursery or garden center (Home Depot, Lowes, etc..) Depending on the variety you select the flowers may be large or small and nearly any color. Sulcats (and iguanas) love these plants, they will follow me all over the yard if they see I have a flower, the leaves and green stalks of the plant is also eaten.
**********Be very careful** The plants you get from stores are almost always treated with some types of pesticides which can potentially injure or kill your pet. I reccomend washing the plant and then waiting at LEAST 60 days before using any part of the plant as a food item.********************
And one other thing.. if your hibiscus plant is small, be careful about leaving it where the tortoise can have direct access to it, I had a smaller plant knocked over in its pot and munched all the way down to the stalks .. 100% of the leaves were gone.
They really love that stuff.
Good luck-
Jeff
