Hey, just wondering how your Schneider is holding out. That wound looked really bad, and it seems you've done a great job of nursing him. Keep us updated on his condition if you can!

Hi Steve -
I was wondering the same thing as Deke...I looked again at your pic of him feeding on the cat food...it's hard to believe he could recover from such a wound - a testimony to your skill and patience, and to nature's enduring capacity to heal. Hope he's still doing OK.

Did you check out Aino's post further down? She has had success breeding schneiders, and posted a great pic of a hatchling.

Hi DeKe,

So cool you thought to ask.. Thank you..

He is doing great.. He put on 18 grams in weight, the gash is 100% closed up and shed to boot.. I moved him from Iso tank to a normal 4 foot tank with play sand on 2/3 of the tank. He has been having a blast in the sand.. A total nut job..LOL.. I went and payed for him a couple of days ago, so he is all mine..

I got givin another S. Skink to try and recoup. I will post pics of that one this evening..

BTW, I will also post a pic from above.. Still think its a male?

Thanks for asking..

I'd say it's a male, very nicely colored one too.

Yeah. Definetly still male. By the way, when they're all healed up, it'd still be best to keep them all seperate, as males are extremely territorial.

Just wondering, what you used in order to heal them?
You probably did, but if not, i'd try and get some Baytril. It'll help cear up any internal infections caused by the wound (a lot of the time, the wound will close, but the infection stays under the skin) GIve this orally, with the food. One drop a day should do the trick.

Glad to see they're doing well

Hi again..

To treat the skink with the deep cut. I used novansan. It cleans the wound, helps remove the dead tissue to is heals together right. I Used butterfly stitches to hold the wound together and did a smear of neosporin with out pain meds to avoid any further chance of infection. I use to use Baytril, but after doing a more in depth look at the effects of baytril on reptiles, I no longer use that. I have been using Tylan 200. It has worked amazing. I would show you a snake I worked on with the worse possible gash, and Tylan not only kept her from getting an infection, but helped her heal fast.. Like I said I was going to post the pic, but this is a skink forum..

To treat internal paracites I prefer Panacure. But I do no treating for internal paracites until I do my own fecal smear..
