I'm just curious as to what most people here had the most success with when getting their new hatchling BP to feed. Mouse/Rat/Gerbil/something else? FT, FK, live? Thanks!

I have never fed my snake anything but mice. He was born last July, so he isn't big enough for rats yet. I fed him live because I didn't know better, and the breeder I got him from recommended it. I now feed him prekilled meals, although I am not totally opposed to live feeding as long as it is a mouse (rats and gerbils are smart and bite like crazy if possible) and is small enough. Although people here will tell me I am stupid for doing this, I'll occasionally feed my snake a live hopper, which is really easy for him to kill (he is eating jumbo adults regularly). The first time I fed him I dropped the live mouse in there, and he attacked and killed it in about two seconds. Hope this helps.

Small live mice. But then get them switched over to dead food ASAP.

Thanks. My hatchling isn't interested at all in dead food. I tried an appropriate sized white mouse with no success, so I'm wondering if it's the color thing. I'll try a different colored mouse next. I actually got her to strike and (semi) coil around a live small rat, but it was too big. It was a white-tan/brindle color. Can they actually tell the difference between a frozen/thawed mouse that you're dangling in front of them, and a live one?
White live mice have always worked for. He usually attacks and kills the mouse within 3 minutes.
