Help with new gecko

neon11 May 20, 2003 09:23 AM

Hi.I have a new baby gecko,I have had him for 2 weeks. When I first brought him home he ate everything in sight. Now the last few days he hasn't touched mealworm or waxworm, and in the last 24 hours doesn't seem to want any crickets.Do they go off eating before a shed? How often does a baby shed?Should I just wait a day or two before tring food again,I don't want to stress him out?He has had 2 poops a night the last few nights.
Any help would be appreciated.Thank you.

Don't worry too much...even a young gecko that goes off food for a few days isn't a problem. As long as it is acting normally (going to the bathroom, roaming around, no physical signs of problems) it will start eating soon. Wait a couple days and try again...babies shed alot (since they are growing) and some geckos will not eat the day before they shed.

Sounds like he ate alot when you got em and now he might just be stuffed. Make sure you dont feed too many waxworms or they will refuse other food. When my gecko sheds, she normally doesnt eat as much or not at all and its pretty common. hope this helps

Geckos often go off food a day or two before they shed. Also baby geckos are voracious but have small stomachs- given constant access to food or twice daily feedings they will often poop twice a day, it is nothing to worry about as long as poops are solid.
