Hi All, I was wondering if anyone has read any reports on where Eastern Females usually lay their clutches? Do they lay them in gopher tortise burrows, rotting stumps, composting debris piles. If they lay their eggs in composting piles or rotting stumps, wouldn't the temps be higher than those layed in underground burrows. I know that they were/are doing a tracking study on Cape Canaveral in Florida, and I don't know if they were keeping track of where the Females has deposited their clutches. These findings could help in determining proper incubation temps. Underground temps may be well below the low seventies, and above ground sites, well above the low seventies. Anybody with a root cellar can test out the under ground temp theory, let me know if it works.
