New mountain King, Have questions

sallie_keeper Aug 16, 2006 01:38 AM

Hi all. I adopted a very old California Mountain King (L. z. Zonata) 4 weeks ago.. I have very little history on this snake. Only, that He was caught as an adult 13 years ago.. I am the 3rd owner in the last 5 years(legal issue the others are afraid of).. I believe the snake may be blind, but it also could be old retained eye caps. As he had trouble finding his meals. Guess he will be given prekilled only...hoppers are just too fast for him.

Q: I have had him a month and he has shed twice..Is this normal?? Or an indication something may be wrong?? He had not been fed very often at his last home. However, I have given him 2 hoppers in the past week.. (his only feeding with me)

Q: Does this species put off a musk?? Because this snake Stinks!!! I picked him up before feeding to remove stuck shed, he did not musk or poop, but stank like something rotten. He has not pooped out his first mouse yet, so I don't know if it is just old man smell or possibly cancer...he is around 14 years old.

This is such an awesome snake.. I grew up wanting one.. He has finally found a forever home.. Hopefully, I get to have him around for a while.

Billie

This sounds like a snake you should take to the vet.

I usually don't reccomend a vet, but in this case I do. Get them to take a stool sample.
