aaronb716 Aug 16, 2006 09:26 AM

well i have been vary interested in getting a larger tortoise so i went 2 a local reptile show on sunday and the last table i stopped at had a couple people crowding around a big fish tank so i looked 2 see what it was and it was a big sulcata i looked over 2 my mom she gave me a strange look and said hay if u have the money go head and buy him.. so i handed the guy 300 dollers i thought it was a good price he said ok . so i took the big guy home and as we r driving home he lets out a grunt i thought it was funny my mom freaked out lol . when we got him home i put him in is outdoor pen he walked around for 10 mins then suddenally started chompen on the grass in there i was vary happy b/c i wasnt sure what diet he had been given from his old owners and i wasnt sure if he would take 2 fresh grasses but he did.. he does have a little bit of pyramiding but its actually not that bad and now he is on the proper diet he should be ok.. sorry i keep rambleing on but you all know when u get a new tort how cool it really is .. PS i just measured marv and he is 16 inches long and weighs 28 pounds and the guy he i bought him from thought he might be around 15 years old....

I hope to have one someday, and I hope that it grows up to look that nice. You have to understand, a lot of people that keep sulcatas end up with a ton of pyramiding (due to many factors) so be very happy to have found a large one with such little pyramiding. Just keep him on a good diet, and he should continue growing nicely. Males can reach up to 30" and over 100lbs!

Right now I'm working with russian tortoises. A little easier to manage

What a beautiful guy. Too bad you paid $300. I have two that size I am trying to find suitable homes for. Every week or so I turn away big torts because I just don't have the room. Good luck with the new guy, he looks sweet.

Hey Krim5,
I live here in North Charleston SC and have a large pen in my backyard with 2 adult Sulcatas, 2 juveniles, and 2 hatchlings. I also have 10 acres of land in Cottageville SC that we are going to be moving to and devote 1+ acres to the Sulcatas, I have plenty of room if you need to relocate your tortoises please contact me at sd2fast4u@aol.com
