SURVEY ,,, DNA vs The Current way

HerpZillA Aug 16, 2006 09:55 AM

OK, I'm sure a few have been following my thread with Tim. I know Tim, and I know he is a smart, and knowledgeable guy. He loves to write in a concise, articulate manner.

Me, I ramble and use visual aides, and many metaphors.

BUT, I want to know what others think? I think we all would have to agree DNA is a pretty exact scientific of mapping an animal. So why should this not become the standard to classify out wildlife? IF, and only when we have enough DNA info of a collected group of animals. I guess someone will also have to decide what enough of genetic information to differentiate a sub species and a different species, family, order etc. But I truly see it as a better way to disambiguate our wildlife.

I'm glad Pedro won. Anyone who'd bake a cake as an attempt to get a girl to go to a dance with him is alright in my book.

I don't think most people would deny the relevance of DNA being used to determine the relationships between living things.

I think the topic of the original post (by Rivets55) was "Do you believe in the re-classification of corn and rat snakes?" I'm pretty sure most people did not. Tim, Darin and Rivets55 said "no" - Dorby and HerpZilla said "yes".

Do the results of this "poll" mean anything? Not really. I reckon additional studies by other researchers would make a stronger arguement for corn/rat reclassification.

You guys having a killer time?

Tim

HerpZillA Aug 18, 2006 01:04 PM

I said YES to reclassify the corn?

I think? I meant! let me perfectly clear here, I judge anything SHOULD be reclassified if the DNA proof shows it SHOULD be.

But I also stated over and over I do not trust the people, nor do I believe they an established, and approved system of DNA differences to declare a different class, order, family, genus, and species or sub species.

Just because some over educated nerd has the access and ability to map some DNA and distinguishes some disparity does not give him, the distinct authority to change a classification.

You don't build a house with out plans. And you DO NOT start changing classifications with out some accepted system. Sorry, for the metaphor. But it lets me type a little more.

1a I did not think or wanted or really care if the corn is reclassified as a rat snake.

2a refer to 1a.

Some butt retentive genetic wizard geek can tell me a corn is a boa. I just like what I like. I’m not into the animals that deep to be that involved. OK, I care a little.

But, not enough to have my own judgment to say, STOP the corn is NOT a rat snake. OR YES IT IS!

Ok, to my normal state of mind.

This is your entire fault Tim. I got hooked into corns because of you. My own personal GURU of the CORNS.

1b Corns are more fun than the hognose, and a lot more options.

2b If was doing this for money, I would have kept my 2 big female balls and bought the third I had a chance to, and buy some high end co dom morph, or a piebald and made money on the hets.

3b Refer to 1a
