HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!1

goawaynow May 20, 2003 09:27 AM

I have a big problem, and if any one could help me with it it would be appricated. It doesnt have to do with herp health but with health problems they may cause.
This is how it started, last week my grandmother got sick and went into the hospital. The doctors say the problem may be that parakeets (which I have a lot of and I said I would find them new homes). Well now my mom says that its all the animals, and they all have to go. But not the cats or dog. The dr. say there is something in the feces that causes restptory problems in older poeple. Now I have 2 snake, afew lizard, a frog, a toad and a short tail possume. My ball python I can't part with, he's my baby. I've had him for years. The other snake is a rock python, and I'de hate to give her up. My african bull frog was a gift from my boyfriend and he's so cool, I cant see him causing any problems. If any can help me out please please do. I don't know what to do. Thier not causing the problem. If any one has any info, ideas or suggestings please let me know you can e-mail me a goaway666420@cs.com. my deadline is Friday. I cant let them go.

Maybe you could get a hepa air filter. I think they're kind of expensive but they're supposed to be the best kind. You could keep it in your herp room.

I am sorry for your situation, but I feel you are being taken advantage of. I find it VERY hard to believe that dogs, cats, and birds are not the sole source of her medical condition. Assuming you keep your cages clean, and your grandmother has no direct contact with your herps, I don't see how they could be causing any problems!

There may be some other forum regulars who would know more than me, I only have no degree in the medical field, but I am not aware any problems associated with herps just being in the same house. I simply would not settle for this type of reasoning. Ask the doctor for specific literature on your GM condition and research it YOURSELF. Present any contradicting evidence to your GM and the DR.

I have a feeling they are using this as an excuse to get rid of a group of animals that have nothing but a negative connotation associated with them, especially older generations. Instead of hoping you grow out of this phase, they want to force it on you. Again, I would ask for specifics and see for yourself if the herps are responsible. If you are refused those details, refuse to get rid of ANY of your animals.

Check out the link below and look at the diseases associated with non-herps.

Numbers of Diseases transmittable to humans from pets:
Birds = 3
Cats = 11 (including the plague)
Dogs = 12
Reptiles = 1
All can transmit salmonella.

I came down with a skin condition after getting my first python and my mom swore up and down that was the cause of it but the doc. said it is not possable. You are more likely to have reactions to animals that bath in there own salive witch causes almost all cat allergies. Birds also bath in there salive. The only thing that I can think of that might cause a problem with the snake is if you are using a bark bedding it may produce mold in high humidity tanks and cages this is very harmful to the herps and my be harmful to humans. I do not have any proof though.
