Hey everyone, i am starting to build chameleon cages and i was wondering what other chameleon hobbiest would like to see in cages for their chameleon.
Oh and i am talking about higher end enclosures because i have been a carpenter for 10 years and a hobbies for the past three. I want to imitate their environment as much as possible. You feedback will be helpful.
Everyone wants something different, but my favorite cage is wood on both sides and the back, with a screened door and a screened top. They used a melamine bottom, but a "drop-in" plastic bottom would be better. The problem with this design is that the chameleons cannot climb on the wood surface as they can on screen wire. I stapled plastic roofing gutter guard pieces on all of the wooden areas to help with climbing. This builder used very heavy 1/8" stainless steel wire mesh for the door panel and I asked for 1/4" of the same for the top so that UVB would have better penetration. If you could design a sloped floor with a simple drainage system and incorporate it into your cages I feel it would be a great selling point. Hope this helps a little. Diane
