Got a new Cal King

wizbang Aug 16, 2006 08:10 PM

After having corns for several years, I now have a Cal King.

While living in IL I owned and bred corns and really enjoyed them. Unfortunately, they are illegal in my new state plus it's hard to move snakes so I found good homes for them.

I think I'll like the Cal Kings but there seems to be some things to get used to. Most of the corns I produced were pretty relaxed out of the egg.

This little gal is a pooper and doesn't much seem to care for being taken out of the cage. She eventually settles but it takes a while.

Assume with time and patience that will take care of itself.

Yeah - they musk a lot - but they do eventually learn not to.

IMHO Garter Snakes get the award for pain in the butt.
They musk just as bad as kingsnakes do, and are far more squirrely.

You know - I use to detest albino cal kings. I thought they were just ugly. But when they get older/bigger - they really do become exceptionally beautiful, far prettier than the pictures can adequately capture.

My big albino girl is the prettiest snake I currently have - they really are gorgeous as adults.

I used to detest all cali, i think it was because i grew up in Calif and i got burned out on em because they like to musk too much and they're more jittery than the other getula, Good thing now i like them again, and i'll always have some cals in my collection.

I was going to get a normal but while shopping on-line my daughter saw some and said she wanted to have a "pink" one. Thus the albino.

Next one will be a normal.

It won't stay pink.
Here's an adult albino with an adult normal -

Interesting. In all honesty I didn't know the pink washes out as they grow.

Still good looking animals.
