Hi Dave, the boas real look good. Their parents originated from the Alajuela region.

I guess last year from out of no where I started seeing some Costa Ricans being referred to as Western Phase and Eastern phase. While their may be some truth as to this. It's still a very gray area . These boas are very variable and animals that fall under the description of ether phase can be found in the same areas or even the same clutch.

2 years ago I bought my pair from Ben Segal, I was so impressed by them when I saw another for sale I contacted the seller Kevin Barnet of ectothermics this is a copy of his reply This is Costa male 10.04 or COS.M10.04. He is captive bred from the
serpentarium (Zoocriadero World Snakes) in Grecia Costa Rica and was a part
of 2 batches of zoo animals I had brought in over the last year to begin our
own locality Costa Rican breeding project. I would guess his age at 6 months or so, but or older animals of this type haven't lost any of their color.
There seem to be at least 2 forms. The Western form typical of animals from
the pacific side around Playa Hermosa and the central form which may be more eastern from around Grecia like this one.. 1 zookeeper claims both are found scattered indiscriminately while the other recognises the separate forms and says there may be a third.

I consider this information to be pretty much from the "horses mouth" and would tend to believe it.

All those animals came thru me as well as 90= % of all US stock. Ernie Eison

after an e-mail exchange with Mr. Eison I must get off my high horse and except the fact that if he was there (Costa Rica) and was the one who imported most of the Costa Rican boa's into the U.S. then he certainly would know what he's talking about. As I explained to Mr. Eison my only hang up on a name, eastern western or whatever is just so I can properly represent any babies I may produce in the future
